Since the antenna measurement need to meet the far field condition: r≥(2D^2)⁄λ. Therefore, the dimension of the far field anechoic chamber would be very large for large aperture antenna and array antenna, such large anechoic chamber construction cost would be so high. Thus, the indoor testing of large aperture antenna and array antenna are currently choosing the near field method to test the radiation characteristics of the antenna.

Thus, the indoor testing of large aperture antenna and array antenna are currently choosing the near field method to test the radiation characteristics of the antenna.

The advantages of near field method: fast measurement speed, high precision, and can also diagnose the antenna, find problems, and do not have high requirement for the performance and dimension of chamber, so it has been widely used in recent years with the progress of measuring instruments.

The near field method is used to measure the radiation characteristics of the antenna by measuring the field distribution on the antenna aperture: amplitude and phase, and then by near field and far field transformation, the radiation pattern and parameters of the far field antenna are obtained.

In order to accurately measure the distribution of the antenna aperture field, a precise field probe, a scanner and a precise guide rail are set up in the chamber to realize plane, cylindrical and spherical scanning on antenna aperture.

The use of MT25 solid absorbers fully meets the requirement of near field test configuration.
